TI Introduces Industry's First 27-Line Low Voltage Differential SCSI Programmable Terminator to Support SPI-5
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Feb. 11, 2003) - Supplying system designers with a new level of flexibility and peace of mind, Texas Instruments (TI) announced today the industry´s first 27-line programmable low voltage differential (LVD)- only small computer system interface (SCSI) terminator to support the Ultra640 (SPI-5) standard. The UCC5696 allows a termination impedance to adjust to the bus loading using an I2CTM communication interface, enabling the bus to adjust to the number of disk drives installed in the system. (See power.ti.com/sc03031 .)
TI's UCC5696 terminator uses nominal settings on power up that are compliant from SPI-2 to SPI-4 standards for impedance and bias, and programmable settings, which are used for SPI-5 and beyond. The new device uses the I2C interface to program the differential impedance 5 ohm increments from 55 ohms to 135 ohms using 4 bits or 16 steps. Using the same process, it also programs the differential bias current in 50 micro-Amps (uA) from 0.7 mA to 1.45 mA.
